Advent: Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn

Two-Week Workshop (Half-days)

Monday - Friday 

10am-2pm Mountain Time

This Advent let us meditate on the light of God entering the world through the incarnation of Christ by painting the icon of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn.

"The people who sat in darkness
   have seen a great light,
and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death
   light has dawned.”

- Matthew 4:16

Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
   and your healing shall spring up quickly;
your vindicator shall go before you;
   the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.

​

This unusual icon, venerated by both the Orthodox and Catholic Churches in Eastern Europe, depicts Mary without the Christ Child - making it a wonderful icon for Advent.

 

To honor the quiet season of Advent we will paint the original with a few additions in gold. Each day you will be invited through prayers, discussion and the painting process to contemplate the light of God in your own life.

Class will be conducted live on Zoom. Sorry, no recordings are available at this time.

A prepared 8"x10" board will be provided along with instructional materials and gold leaf. First-time students have the option to purchase an Introductory Kit for $12 (recommended). See Essential Supplies for details.
