Icon: St. Francis of Assisi

Iconography—the painting or "writing" of an icon—is a living tradition and perhaps the oldest form of Christian sacred art. Furthermore, it is a spiritual practice—the emphasis is on the process, not the final product. It has been an integral part of the worship and mystical life of Christians since apostolic times. St. Francis of Assisi serves as a powerful spiritual mirror, inviting believers to embrace radical humility, peace, and simplicity in their daily lives. His sacred image reminds us of the beauty found in devotion to the Way of Jesus and solidarity with the poor. Participants will write (paint) an icon of St. Francis with birds.
