St. Benedict (c. 480–547), honored as a foundational figure of Western monastic life, lived in Italy during a time of cultural and social fragmentation following the fall of the Western Roman Empire. From this fractured landscape Benedict wrote his Rule, a short yet profound guide for shaping a life attentive to God and open to transformation. Rather than offering escape from the world, Benedict proposed a way of remaining present to God through the steady rhythms of daily life—a path that has guided monastic communities for centuries, and drawn lay iChristians from all denominations who seek to deepen their daily expression of lived faith.
